A Little Homesick

Well, it doesn't happen all the time, but I do find myself daydreaming and missing my family a lot more at this time of year. I really have a great family. They are so thoughtful. This time of year seems to get so hectic with all the projects, parties and gifts buying. Sometimes I just sit and look at my lit up Christmas tree and wish I were at home with my family. It's amazing how this time of year really makes you think about those that you love and all that you are missing out on. I feel like I am where I should be, and I am happy to be spending Christmas with Robbie. I just get a little homesick every now and again.

My family sure is great though. They are so thoughtful and fun. I can almost smell the wonderful scents of Christmas in the house and see all the decorations. My house was always anything but quiet, but it was full of laughter and a lot of love. One thing I can always count on when my family gets together is a lot of laughter. We tend to gang up on whoever seems weakest at that moment and tease them relentlessly. Now if that's not the spirit of Christmas, I don't know what is. But my family is also one of the most giving families I know.

My mom works tirelessly to make Christmas wonderful. She searches for days even weeks to find the perfect gifts for everyone. Then come Christmas eve the house is filled with the most wonderful scents as she bakes all the Christmas goodies one can imagine.

My Dad is so service oriented. He would do anything for anyone. He shows his love in all the little things he does on a daily basis. He is the first to volunteer for a service project and he is also the one that you can count on to be there no matter what. He is the one to make sure that we take time during the season to sit and read the touching Christmas stories that so many of us forget about. One tradition that we started is reading the book the Forgotten Carols each Christmas eve we sit down together as a family and read this book. After we get done we all gather around my Dad as he reads the nativity story from the Bible. What a way to bring the spirit of Christmas into our home. Then we each get to open one gift (pajamas) and then it's off to bed!!

All my Brothers and Sisters are just as great when it comes to giving. I almost cried when they told me that they had all talked it over and they wanted to chip in and pay for my plane ticket so I could come home for Christmas. What an amazing gift. None of my siblings are overflowing with money and it would have been a real sacrifice for them to give up that kind of money, but they were all willing. Not one of them even complained about it. I decided I needed to be here this year, but believe me their thoughtfulness was not in vain.

That is what family is all about. I feel very blessed to have such an amazing family. I really will miss being at home with them this season.
